How to Activate the Healing Power of God in your life
What’s up with healing in the church?
I have recently wondered to myself, “Why aren’t more people getting healed in church?” or in general within the Body of Christ? Is the church is corrupt? Are preachers faking the funk? Is there not enough anointing in the house of God? If we have the gift of the Holy Spirit living inside of us and that spirit has the same healing power as Jesus when he walked the earth, then what’s up? The church has its fair share of problems but what if I said it’s not the church? There are some preachers who are wolves in sheeps clothing trying to take advantage but dare I say it is not the preachers. What if I said, maybe it’s you who is not activating the healing power of God in your life? When I say you, I’m including all of us.
How do we activate the healing power of God in our life?
What is it that we are missing? There are a few things that need to be in order for the power of God to truly work in our lives. The Holy Spirit can do miraculous things, but are we giving the Holy Spirit the ammo it needs to start dishing out miracles? Are we asking in faith? Are we forgiving our brothers and sisters? Is our heart in the right place? God is all powerful, he can do what he wants when he wants. He can heal who he wants however he wants; but why not create a space conducive to the work of the Holy Spirit?
Here are some things to consider to activate the healing power of God in your life
Forgiveness of others for your own healing
Have you forgiven every person who has ever wronged you? Sometimes we may not even know that this is something that we are holding onto. You need to forgive everyone who has done you wrong. Ask God to help you forgive. Help you to forgive your father, your mother, and everyone else that you are holding onto anger or unforgiveness because of something in the past or present. God can not forgive you if you do not forgive others. If you want God to perform in your life you have to let go of unforgiveness. The first step to right relationship with God is repentance. Ask God to forgive you for your sins. Then ask God to help you to forgive others. It may not happen overnight but if you are serious, I am a witness God can work miracles on your heart.
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15 NLT
Surrender to God for healing
You must surrender your whole life to him. You have to give God permission to do what he does best. If you don’t give your life to him to fix, he won’t fix it. I remember the day I surrendered everything to God. I was desperate. Things were not working out my way. I was willing to give up everything just to have God be in control of my life; and I meant it. In a matter of hours, something felt different. It felt like my heart was replaced with a whole new heart. I couldn’t believe it, the hurt and pain that I held onto for so long was gone. I tried to be angry at something that I was angry about for so long and I literally couldn’t feel anger or hurt. God healed my broken heart.
How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.
Psalms 13: 2-3 NLT
Faith in God for Healing
Faith and healing work together. You cannot receive healing without believing you can be healed and without believing in the Lord God Almighty who is the healer. There are multiple cases in the bible where Jesus heals people from sickness or brings them back from death. In some cases, Jesus says, “Your faith is great, your request is granted”(Matthew 15:28) or “Your faith has made you well, go in peace” (Luke 8:48) or “Just have faith and she will be healed.” (Luke 8:50)
Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
James 5:14-16 NLT
Environment conducive to healing by the Holy Spirit
The story of Jairus and his daughter in the book of Mark made me take notice about how significant the environment can affect healing. Jairus found Jesus and asked him to come heal his sick daughter. While they were on there way news came that the girl had already died. When he got to the house of Jairus he stopped the crowds and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except for a few disciples.
When he went inside he said, ” Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep. The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave…” (Mark 5:35-43) Jesus created the environment necessary to perform this miracle by keeping the wrong people out and inviting the right people in. Jesus also stated, ” A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.” (Mark 6:4) Jesus healed and performed miracles all over but couldn’t perform any miracles in his hometown of Nazareth because of the people’s “unbelief.” What crowd are you hanging with? Make sure you are in the right environment and have the right people with you.
“And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.”
Mark 6: 5-6 NLT
Healing starts in your heart
Please do not get me wrong. I am not saying that if you do everything on this list, in this order that you will automatically be healed of your sickness. I am saying that the power to heal and perform miracles is very real and present on this earth. It can’t hurt to check yourself in these areas and to seek God about it. If you are interested in benefiting from the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, it can’t hurt.
